Finding the right path for your rider: an introduction to our levels.

Choosing the right summer activity in Portland often comes down to finding a program that meets your child exactly where they are. At Biking Buds, we’ve designed a four-stage progression that ensures every camper, from ages 3 to 12, feels both challenged and supported. Our levels prioritize a "try → reflect → try again" model of experiential learning, allowing kids to build competence at their own developmental pace.

Our journey begins with our youngest riders and ends with our most experienced explorers:

Balance Buds: Perfect for our 3-5 year old beginners who are mastering the fundamentals of core stability and steering on balance bikes.

Pedal Pups: Designed for those ready to transition to pedals, focusing on the coordination and confidence needed to ride independently.

Biking Blazers: For confident riders who are ready to increase their stamina and refine their bike handling skills in a group setting.

Old Pros: Our most advanced level for older campers (up to age 12) who are ready to master practical skills and explore some of Portland's unique urban landscape.

Beyond just technical skills, every level encourages social-emotional growth. Our staff—many of whom are educators and youth workers—are trained in the CASEL framework to help campers manage emotions and practice teamwork while they ride. This ensures that whether they are a Balance Bud or an Old Pro, they are building resilience that lasts long after the summer ends.
